At Bisley they are taking club bookings but it’s still only one group of 6 shooters per lane, with a lane between each group left vacant and social distancing is adhered to. Each group also need their own RCO, even if there are several 6 shooter groups from the same club, you’ll need several RCOs as well.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

I'm afraid it's not getting any better.

Just had an email from Landmarc and a follow up from Guy Trembath at the NRA.

While this has come to us from the Otterburn DIO apparently it's not just a local issue/policy change.

The short of it is explained by Guy in this ectract from his email.

"I have just spoken to Frazer @ Otterburn to clarify exactly what is needed from our clubs to enable them to shoot on MOD ranges. ( apparently this isn’t a local initiative )

Frazer has instructed that the make and calibre of any rifle to be used on an OTA range must be logged on BAMS prior to the shoot taking place. He also instructs that if handloads are to be used, it must also be stated on BAMS that the muzzle energy of the handloaded ammunition is within range limits as stated in the current range standing orders. ( eg for Pont B this is page 3-O-1 section 17)

Clearly the challenge for clubs is that we might not know exactly who ( and hence what rifles ) will be used until the shoot actually takes place. This being the case, Frazer has suggested that we list all rifles which could possibly be used, and if they are not used on the day..no matter. The key point is that if someone turns up on the day with a rifle which is not listed on BAMS then he must not be allowed to use it.

I appreciate that your members might be reticent to give this information out, but in defence of MOD, it is reasonable for them to ask what rifles are being used on their estate. ( this is a H&S issue ) ."

When you bid for ranges do you use the electronic landmark bams bid form? It asks for that information on the form I have all ways added details of calibers and firearms used.

THIS ARRIVED TODAY.

The NRA has been working closely with the Safety and Assurance Team responsible for the MoD UK Training Estate to re-start NRA affiliated club shooting on outdoor MoD ranges.

New Government guidance for England published on 3rd July 2020 is available here

https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... e-guidance

Section 4 contains the follow statement that applies to Gatherings

“Businesses and venues following COVID-19 Secure guidelines can host larger groups. This is also the case for events in public outdoor spaces that are organized by businesses, charitable or political organizations, and public bodies, provided they take reasonable steps to mitigate the risk of transmission, in line with COVID-19 Secure guidance and including completion of a risk assessment. Any other gathering in an outdoor space must not be any larger than 30 people except where specified in the Regulations.”

We have agreed with MoD that NRA affiliated Clubs may resume live-firing activities on ranges in England subject to specific requirements that are currently being finalized – we hope to publish the details next week.

The timing of the opening of individual ranges will be decided by each Regional Commander. It is extremely important that Clubs fully comply with current Government guidelines, MoD Covid-19 policies, and procedures in addition to range orders and the NRA safe shooting system.

As each of the devolved Administrations publishes guidelines we will review for access to ranges in Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.

Kind regards

I spoke with the Major in charge of the Catterick MOD range complex this morning.
Catterick ranges can be booked from the 1st of August and parties of up to 30 shooters can be accommodated. A COVID 19 risk assessment is required to accompany any bids.
