Wondering what people think about these rifles in 243cal, seem to see lots for sale at very good price, it will be a target gun only at 100 metres most of the time . Any opinions good or bad would be appreciated

Excellent rifles. Just check the barrel condition.
They are Mauser actions and very strong.

This applies to all used .243 rifles, not just PH. They are hideously fire cracked more often than not although I did once see a beautiful 75 Finnnlight with a perfect bore. Sadly the new owner stuffed a very rapid couple of boxes of factory stuff through it leaving the barrel smoking hot at the action end, so that would have been toast as well.

if you are going to use it mostly at 100yds then a PH.308 would probably be a better bet, they made specifically target models, the barrel life of .308 is usually several times that of .243, and I wouldn't have thought there would be any savings in using the smaller ammo as the target ammo range would be far wider for .308

KennyC is bang on here, the PH or indeed any similar Mauser based .308Win is going to be a handy rifle, they are always sensibly priced and perfect for paper at 100 yards.

Fultons of Bisley (although they don't have a very good reputation on here) always have a selection of Mauser based .308's built for target shooting. Reasonable money too!

It is always worth trying a lower offer on rifles at Fultons and you can find some real bargains with them. Cheapest will be Mauser sporters in normal gunshops.

Scotarms auction in December at Newark is a good place to look.

There's a Tx1200 .308 for sale on the airgunbbs for£250 at the moment.
Just noticed he's looking for face to face deal south Wales.
