Militaria fairs

I've got a few spare slots for historic rifles on my FAC that I'm looking to fill. I'm particularly looking for a K98 at the moment. I've never been to a militaria fair before and wondering if they are worth going to looking for activated firearms or whether it's all deacs and other non-FAC stuff? What prompted me to ask the question was seeing that this is coming up:
http://www.birminghamarmsfair.com/ and thought I could plan a Midlands weekend with the Target Shooting Show on Saturday and the arms fair on Sunday....not that I've discussed it with the missus yet

Militaria fairs are mainly aim at collectors of equipment, uniforms, medals, documents etc ... you will find some deact weapons and a lot of weapon related equipment (ammo pouches, cleaning kits, mags, bayo etc... ) but very little else.

The Birmingham Arms fair is what it says---not just a Militaria Fair. Lots of old guns, mainly obsolete and off-ticket types.

Thanks guys. As I said, no experience of these things and, based on what you've said, I won't bother!

Not sure I agree, we attended the one in Bedford quite a few times and there were always old rifles for sale.
A mix of FAC/deacts/obsolete.
Canons, badges, belts, ammo boxes, gas masks, gas bags, you name it, it was there. Quite an interesting event.
I am thinking that Birmingham will be bigger than Bedford so more to look at?
Just one thing, there will be neo nazi and the like there however they normally keep a low front.

Hmmmnn.....K98.
There's a can of worms, depending on what you're looking for.
Seeing where you are, worth contacting Andy and Steve at Arundel Militaria (as they are in Knighton) as they do get the odd nice K98 in, they have a couple of nice original Portuguese contract ones in stock at the moment.

Also, Cliff at CWClassicarms in Essex is also a bit of a Mauser specialist, so worth contacting him.

Militaria and Arms Fares used to be really good fun 30 years ago. The place for impulse and curio buys. Last one I went to had prices that were sky high for rick bottom quality!

Christel ... Are you some kind of Daily Mail sensational reporter ?
Dont want to be rude but your comment is not only inaccurate but also on the verge of being defamatory ...
