Who ELSE knows where your guns are stored?
Can you imagine the reaction of your firearms licensing department if you told a perfect stranger that you had guns at home, then gave him your name and address? I suggest that they would be VERY unhappy with you for this breach of security.
Well, it seems that some firearms licensing departments are doing this for us.
We have been told that the Met, Sussex, Gloucestershire, Hampshire and West Yorkshire Police (and perhaps others) are sending letters to your doctor's surgery to tell them when you have a certificate granted or renewed.
This means that doctors, receptionists, nurses, practice managers, clerks, cleaners etc in your surgery will have access to the information that you have guns at home, and will know your name and address.
Worse, the letter states that "this means that they [the certificate holder] may have more or less immediate access to firearms and ammunition." As you can imagine his statement is guaranteed to cause concern amongst those who have little or no knowledge of our sport.
Did the police tell you they were going to do this? did you give your permission for them to do this? I think not.
There is a world of difference in your allowing your GP to give information to the police should they need it, (you sign to allow that on the application form) and the police giving information to the surgery - you didn't sign up for that.

If you've renewed recently, why not ask your doctor ?

Only my wife knows ( maybe showing her wasn't the best idea. PMS can be a real killer )
The state of Illinois state arttorny general wanted to make public every fire arm owner, their address, the number of weapons they had and what type of weapons they had. They wanted to put that on a public website for everyone too read. Lucky the state police fought it tooth and nail.

Re: Who ELSE knows where your guns are stored?
Wife has access to the cabinets of course other than that my son knows where they are and a friend who is an FAC holder who helped me get them in place.
I assume my neighbour knows where mine is and I know where his in, other than that it is not information I share. A few other shooters who know my address will know I have firearms but not where and a couple of neighbours will have guessed we shoot by now but for the most it is something I do not discuss.

And if some perp gives you a visit on the back of obtaining your details from the health centre's records...I bet the Police will never be able to trace that illegal access.

Illinois state police advise women that in case of attempted rape they should "put your fingers into your throat," to make yourself vomit. I'm not even making this up.Chuck wrote:Illinois Police and State...nice folks eh!

I'm in to see the nurse and GP on Monday for an annual check ...
I'll make some time and have a word with the practice manager to see if he has received any information on me.

I wouldn't make enquiries until after you have had the finger, Polchraine.

<Who knows where my guns are?> Family and close friends.I live by myself so one else has access to them (neither my dogs or chickens have mastered the art of opening cabinets) and only i know where the spare keys are hidden-although i did tell my nephew that if anything ever happened to me that he would eventually find them somewhere in house and to then notify the rozzers.
