It's a foot in the door I suppose. What does an E-Petition need to be looked at in the House, 100,000 signatures? ... so that's basically everyone that owns a Section 1 in the UK, give or take.
If it did go to the House, though, couldn't they just turn round and say "We've looked at the petiton, and we disagree. Next". I'm not quite sure how it all works :?

Tower, that is pretty well how it works. They did that with various petitions for armed self defence, some mickey mouse lame excuses and that was it NO DEBATE and uyou will never get any referendum on anythiong in the UK now, what would be the point of it...If theyb did have one to allow say CCW, you can bet that if it was 100% YES they would hold it again till they got the "right" answer...Forget democracy here, there is no such thing any more, we are ruled by the EUSSR.
You could have a million signatures, it won't matter a jot because we do not have a democratic set up in the UK, contrary to popular misconception. Our "Parliamentary democracy" means that they are eleceted to do what they want on our behalf, they have no need to consult us or even inform us (Lisbon Treaty) because THEY know best and that is why they were elected.
Gordon Brown showed the real face of this system when he blatantly ignored numerous widely signed petitions as he was not interested in public opinion.!!! Ok that evil dictatorship has sort of gone away but the system and it's values remain in place. Do you HONESTLY think that there is a chance of ANY relaxation of rules, especially after the last week or so..
However, I am ever the optimist and I will sign ANY pro gun petition, if for no other reason than curiousity.

Chuck,
You have highlighted my biggest problem with Politicians from any country.
They (in the majority) have forgotten that they are
our representatives. They where elected to represent
our views and wishes to parliment.
They are not our masters, but our servants.
This is something they need to be reminded of.

SG only way that will happen is for "London TWO, revenge of the grown up law abiding" to take place
Like IO keep saying, it was allowed to happen, abdicate your life to tyrants and they will happily take it. To think people fought and died in two world wars to get to where we are today is truly gut churning!
