A new one on me, I've not seen its like before.
Apart from the obvious that the example you have is made by Winchester and that it appears to be a similar case diameter to .22WRM (which it obviously isn't) I can only agree with your suggestion that it's possibly a .22 Winchester Automatic, which according to cartridges of the world was dropped by Winchester in the 1970s.

It is Winchester.
Winchester rimfire ammunition has had a an "H" stamp on it since the original .44" Henry rimfire round brought in with the 1860 Henry rifle. Oliver Winchester didn't want his name on the innovative design until he was sure it was going to be a success.

Winchester .22 Automatic ammunition was introduced with the Winchester 1903 semi-auto rifle. It was Winchester's first semi-auto and at the time there was still a lot of .22 ammunition loaded with black powder which would quickly gum up the works of a semi-auto rifle. So this ammunition was introduced to stop owners from putting the black powder ammunition into these guns. Remington did a run of the same ammunition. There has not been another gun chambered for this round other than the Winchester 1903.

Box of Winchester ammunition and the 1903 rifle - a neat little take-down.
