I was in Fultons on Sunday, and having read this story, took a close look at the old .36 revolvers in the cabinets - It struck me that that was a hell of a shot at 75 yrds.

He must have practiced at distances over 50 yrs - and I wonder if he used factory ammo or loaded his own?...and to what degree did the gunfighters back then understand the importance of quality ammo...?

Distances are normally measured in yards and not in years Dougan LoL.

Of course he rolled his own - it was a cap and ball revolver!!!!!!!

What a Twonk  - So BP!

So a question, as I know little about BP: How long would you want to leave a BP pistol loaded for - with respect to the caps or powder getting damp, or any other reason that could affect reliability? Would his pistol still be loaded from the night before - or do you think he re-loaded it, to be sure, before he went out into the square?

It is documented that Hickok, every morning, "discharged his revolvers at a target, cleaned and reloaded them for the day's work".
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

Which is why he won so many gunfights!
