20series called in yesterday on his way back from Bisley with his rather nice AR15 type thing

Having shot the LSV M/04 and C7A1 quite recently and handled the C8A2 (I wish I had taken the opportunity to shoot it now) I am starting to see the appeal of such a thing as a 600m rifle.

So any recommendations? A short match rifle based thing or maybe something chambered to take milsurp? Open sights, or look for an optical system, or maybe a traditional 'scope?

Easy, get Mark Bradley to build it for you. The options on the AR platform are almost endless. Chambered for mil-surp, why? RG have stopped supplying to the civilian market and what is out their is in short supply and no longer cheapish.....

I had a 2.5-10 x 50 0n my Southern Gun AR, went out nicely to 600 and a tad further......

ive got an american spirit .223 straight pull,its not top end,but its ok for £600,200 yards through a 50p size hole,gotta get a better scope for 600 though!!!!! i dont shoot it much,just at the gr events mcqueens.........the .22 rf riflrd are pure fun-guns,ive met no person yet who can A. get a good group free standing and B. does not get jamming ptoblems.....ive had the spikes and hk sold em both,got fed up with the inaccuracy of them.....

I currently have one on order from Mark Bradley for Civ Service Rifle (shooting the wooden stuff has become quite lonely of late in NRA comps).
High power rifle looks challenging and the opportunity to shoot out to 600 with it looks like fun.

It took me a long time to "get it" I just couldnt see the point in having a straight pull AR, now I have one and i think they are great fun and very usable also as near as we will get to the real thing, optics wise I had a Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24x50 tactical probably too much scope but it did the biz and was cheapish, I now have a Leupold Mk4 1.5-5x20 M/RT which is more suited to the rifle.
It shoots well and I have never had any feed or extraction problems apart from a few reloaded RG rounds which would not chamber so I simply stopped being a tightarse and refrained from using range pickups.

I am I thinking of maybe building one in 6x39 - using the 7,62x39 case, it would be over bore so heavier on the barrel but should give reasonable accuracy and access to high BC bullets and good brass plus it should feed reasonably from a magazine. Add a 20" match barrel...

This is my AR15 .223/ 5.56 I have had a few years now originaly it was a SDC mil spec , then I had Matt Greenall replace the upper witha SGC with the higher scope rail , its chambered in 5.56 and handles RG etc . A free floated 20" barrel and a Hawke Varmint II 4-16x 44 mildot scope . the few years its only been used for ETR so I dont have a proper zero as I just use the mildots for various distances .

Baldie shoots a 6mm AR I think and it supposes to be super accurate.

I had not heard of it before as I know very little about 6mm calibres. The 6mmAR according to Wikipedia ( :roll: ) is based on the 6.5 Grendel, which is based on the 220 Russian which is based on the.... 7,62x39

Shoulder angle for the 6mmAR is 30 degrees where as the 6x39 is 45 degrees so the AR could be a better choice for magazine feed.
