What does this bit do????

TYpically having been singing it's praises recently the disconnector on my Bora has given up the ghost. First original part to break.

(picture is a genuine M16 disconnector which is a similar shape)
The 'tail' at the back has broken off.

Everything still functions as it should so I'm wondering what the tail actually does?
It's purpose appears to be to depress the rear of the disconnector when the safety is applied but I've no idea what that actually achieves,

Anyone know??

The tail on an m16 disconector is used only during fully automatic fire,

The safety pushes down the disconector and this lets the autosear control when the hammer falls

So no use whatsoever on a UK spec shotgun lol

When the new one turns up could I trim the tail so that it doesn't break there again?

Why not dress the tail of the old one and continue using it?

It's broken here so although it still works the spring is no longer secure potentially leading to something very embarrasing at least bangbang

Best to replace it and leave it original spec. You wouldn't want a burst fire 12b shotgun....and you definitely don't want one in the middle of a practical shotgun competition.... especially when there's 50 odd people watching you..... lol

Replacement sear (as I've now found out it's called on the parts diagram) is on the way.

At least I now know why the majority of AR15 'sears' don't have the little tail.

If I hadn't happened to spot the tiny lump of metal on the floor I would never have known it was broken.

Is the sear on the F12 the same?

I've not had a good look at mine yet but i'd imagine its near identical to the BR99

I'm surprised you haven't stripped it down and started modifying it yet.
You were straight in there with your Bora.

I'm still testing it to make sure its a reliable enough gun to replace my BR99, THEN i'll start taking it to bits and breaking it lol
