Mosin shooting low

Privet tovarichi,
May I introduce you to Katariina my Mosin crossed Finn M39.
I previously shot her scoped and I took her iron sights to 300 on saturday only to realize she shoots 12/15 inches low. Strangely M39 have the reputation for shotting high with with the modern Russian mil-surp I was using. I ended up getting the correct elevation by using the 400 grad on my back sight to achieve PoA/PoI at 300.
Any idea what's going on ?

I have an M38 and an M44 so not the same beast but ... I seem to recall reading somewhere that the (M39) foresight has a number that ought to match a number stamped on the barrel behind the base when it was zeroed. Might be a starting point.

Ups ... I tinckered with the front sight to tune the windage and did not even realised there is a number ...
Thanks for the tip, I'll have a good look

Further to your tip, I did some "internet search" into it & many thanks, you were 100% right
Strangely my post war arsenal refurbised rifle (according to the type of wood) does not have either a numbered front sight blade number nor that corresponding number stamped on its "SA VKT" barrel.
The un-marked blade is very high at nearly 9 mm. I managed to find a 7.2 mm that I ordered.
Does anybody has the mathematical formula to work out what would be the correct size to drop the 300 yards / 275 meters PoA/PoI by 10/12 inches pls ?

Use same formulae for calculating MOA, discussed here :-
https://www.full-bore.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=33069 use sight base length as distance.
By my reckoning you need around 0.5mm shorter.

Thanks VM Kevinww . That sounds about right .
I found this
http://forums.gunboards.com/showthread. ... ade-Height
With a M39 sight radius of 58 cm, depending if my PoA/PoI is indeed 12' or 15' inches lower, I find that I should replace the front blade with one .8 or .6.5 mm shorter.
I'll try out that.72 piggy in the middle and see if Ivan gets it in the chest or the belly

New Bisley outing on saturday for Karariina . 300 yards with the usual Rusky mil-surp.
Still have not fitted a lower front blade, so elevation at 400 meters
