Does anyone know what might be causing this, and whether or not it's a sign of the brass failing or some other problem? I've just noticed after the last firing of these (reloaded 5 times) It's norma brass and has mostly been loaded with 45gr of N140. I neck size only, and it does look ok after I resize. No cracks I can see on the neck. Is it likely to be something happening on extraction? Any advice appreciated.

how do you eject the cases??? if they are flying off and landing on a hard surface it might do that.

Next time try and examine after ejecting slowly and removing the case carefully.

Yes, its caused by extraction.... you don't say what you're firing it from, but many rifles will cause that.
Its the ejector plunger pushing the case to the right (assuming you have a RH rifle) as it come out of the chamber, and bashing the case against the inside of the action, or on the edge of the ejection port.

Thanks for the replies. I’m shooting a howa 1500. A mate has also said its during extraction. Guess I’d never noticed it before.

This is normal. This also happens during transit of new cases, I've noticed it on virgin 7.62x53R Lapua brass. In your case (pun intended) I would hazard a guess it's due to either deflection on extraction or from hitting a hard surface after extraction.

Just resize it and think nothing of it.
