.224 PPU Match bullets

#1 Post by Sim G »

I like PPU cases. They seem to last well and I’ve found them to be fairly consistent with weight and internal H2O volume when I unscientifically messed about with some. I do not like their factory ammo as performance is “hot” and accuracy mediocre. But what about their bullets?

Was speaking to a mate about the fact that .224 SMKs aren’t far off now, what I was laying for .308 SMKs before I went 7mm and Amax. He reckoned he was using 69 and 75gn PPU Match bullets in his 1 in 8” AR. He said he’d never gone past 600 with them, but, the prformance was certainly on par with SMKs in his experience ..... Really? I thought...

So, is he a crap shot and it wouldn’t matter what he was shooting, or are they on par for half the price?

(I am using 52gn SMKs in my R700 VSSF, but got myself a straight pull after a long hiatus....)
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

I use 55 grain in my .222 one of my buddies uses them in his .22 hornet. They work for me but then I am just knocking down figure 11's out to 400 yards. I have some Amax 55 grain may be I should do a side by side at my next 100 yard shoot and see how they compare.

Why PM instead of sharing with the other forum members?

Limited supply, I just cleaned out one supplier of the .30 155's :)

I've posted a few times where I get them from, as Dromia says, a simple forum search works wonders :D
