Yes and I'm going to be looking into importing the American, left handed model as opposed to the (mostly) stainless, slightly longer, and sans flash hider export version (not sure if there's a left handed export model or not... either way I'd prefer the domestic model). Personally I have no interest in mounting an IER scope. My plan is to put an XS monolithic rail on it like so (I don't know why this isn't the rail design Ruger used in the first place!):



And mount a VLTOR or Viking Tactics offset mount up front for a light:



I'll have to see if I can comfortably get my hand all the way around the fore end and rail - if so I'll put some Magpul XTM rail covers inbetween scope rings and light so I can use a thumb break grip.

I got to handle one at IWA back in March. It felt really nice but in the UK I can't quite see where it would fit - other than as a 'play' gun.

In the States, the recommended retail is about $1000 but with discount you'd probably pick one up for around £500. Over here it would probably be double that.

The 16.5 inch barrel seems a wee bit short for a 308! Good news though - you can get it as a left-hander!

I read a review months ago in the American mag, Rifle Shooter. Great concept but unfortunately the accuracy is p***-poor. The reviewer was struggling to get down to 2inches over 100yds!

I think i'll keep my money.

It seems ideal for practical rifle and service rifle to me. Or for deer in wooded areas - short overall length, light weight, and pre-threaded for a suppressor. 5 round magazines are available to keep weight and bulk down when hunting (although 10 rounds is great for hogs in the USA, Australia etc). The scout rail would also be ideal, I imagine, for mounting night vision apparatus if that's something you need.

Not having shot it myself I can't say but other reviews are saying groups under one inch at 100 yards so not sure why the difference. The M77 is known for being hit and miss with some being tack drivers and others having bedding issues etc that result in 3"+ groups at 100 yards. Perhaps this has carried over into the Gunsite.

I just played with one in a gun store last week. My impression was that it was a very light rifle for a .308. I bet it hurts to shoot.

I like the look of it but i can't stand rifles that you can't mount optics in the 'normal' position :evil: As others have said the 16.%" barrel is a bit short for 308, i'd imagine if it was used at a range the shooters either side would soon tire of the excessive bark :?

I keep looking at this rifle and would love to hear a report from a UK shooter.

The barrel on the UK version will be 18" and you can mount a scope in the normal position by removing the rear site. The forward mount, I guess both are of the dovetail type, is just in front of where the Picatiney rail starts.

I read that the Picatiney rail is screwed into the barrel. I wonder if torque settings are critical to accuracy?
Also it is a 1/10 twist so people may be using the wrong weight bullets, expecting it to be a 1/12.

It is still cheaper than the Steyr scout and I have doubts over the savage trigger, which I have seen fail to engage a number of times whilst F Class shooting, certainly not something you want to happen when engaging the rampaging zombies!
