Hi guys, a bit of advice please?

I have a Remington 700 in .223 and would like to convert it to a magazine.

I have a detachable box that could go on the bottom and increase the
amount held by a few extra but I think I want a magazine.

So what options are available to me re conversion to a magazine?
What options are available re different types of magazine?
Will fitting a magazine change the carrataristics of the rifle?

When I lay prone and put bullets in from the top I always struggle
with the second and third bullet because I can't quite see in the top
of the breech. Sometimes I put the bullet too far forward and then
the next bullet interferes with it, making me having to push it out
before I carry on loading.

A magazine would hopefully eliminate that?

The Remington 700 has lots of different DBM options to choose from. Depending on what stock/chassis your rifle has you may have to inlet the stock to accept this, might be a gunsmith job. DBM which use AI mags are the most popular as there are lots of different magazine choices, 5 round, 10 round, metal or polymer.

Converting to a DBM will have no realistic effect during firing. You may want to measure clearance while prone though. Nothing worse than trying to get low to the ground only for a long magazine (eg STANAG) hitting the ground preventing you from doing this. Detachable magazines are great because you load these before shooting so you don't have to blindly load like you would with a fixed internal magazine.

Just a quick look shows the new magazine floor plate types are about
£50 for the AI type? Is that about right?

I did this same thing to my Rem 700. The floor plate was cheap, but be aware your stock will need inletting for the new floor plate, they are not a direct replacement. It may also need some fettling once fitted to function smoothly.

I got mine from ovenpaa from full-bore, and also got an accurate mag (metal AI style .223 mag) which is the business.

it ended up costing me a small fortune because whilst I was getting the stock inletted, I had more work done on the rifle at the same time, rethreaded, minimum headspace setting, polished feed ramp, tactical bolt knob and some more accurising done to it and cost in the region of £800 all in, but the rifle is now perfect and needs for nothing, but I have no idea how much the inletting cost would have been on it's own. Certainly a job that can be done DIY, but I didn't want to mess up my police stock whilst fitting.

I'm not afraid to attempt it but I think for
the piece of mind In would have it done
by someone who is more experienced and
has the tools.

Went down the DBM rabbit hole with previous Remington 700, spent around £600, between parts, gunsmithing and magazines.
This time with my SPS tactical just bought a Magpul Hunter 700 stock and the magwell adapter, less than £300.

Cheapest option would probably be the Legacy Sports/ATI Conversion which is polymer and would limit you to their own magazines.:
