Hi,
As the title says does anyone have a ruger mini 14 that could give me a review of one, accuracy etc. I'm about to get one this week. Are they customisable, where would you get parts and ideas from.
It's something different to my bolt action rifles.
Thanks in advance everyone.
Stephen

I’m afraid I’ve yet to hear a positive thing about them but if you’re after a fun plinker and it’s not too pricey then it could be a lot of fun!

I think it was SimG on here that turned one into a very useful rifle - have a search for the thread, it'll be worth your while.

Thanks guys I'll look for the posts. Just wanted my first step into straight pull to be a bit different. Not after 1" groups at close range as will be shooting it at mid to long range 400yds+.
Hopefully a learning curve in straight pulls.

I really enjoyed owning mine, but I spent a whole lot of time and even more money getting it to perform “acceptably”. And I’m afraid in my experience, 300m is the envelope...

The two I've seen first hand struggled to do better than 3.5-4" at 100m. No wonder the A-Team could never hit anyone with them!

I've never played with one, but thats what I've heard too...
Strangely, in one of the most popular computer games around at the moment ("Player Unknown's Battle Grounds" or PUBG for short), they have a Mini 14 in that, classed as a "sniper rifle"..!!

I've also seen a (bad) film where one is used as a snipers rifle between two tower blocks at least 300m apart. clapclap The guy is taking multiple rapid head shots from one corner of the other tower block to the other!

I am currently shooting one in 7.62x39, fine round, and whilst I agree that it is no bench rest rifle it has no problem in knocking down figure 11 targets out to at least 300 yrds, which is what I have it for, that is with PPU ammunition.
I suspect that hand loading would make it shoot better but in that type of field firing range shooting I wouldn't notice the benefit.
As in all things it is horses for courses.

A friend has recently bought one thinking he would be saving a load of cash in not buying an second hand AR.
Range day 100m off a bench rested, best group was 4" we tried 2 different scopes and 4 lots of ammo 62gr Barnaul, 62gr GGG, 55gr PPU and some 69gr SMK reloads. GGG and reloads were the best on the day. He then tried some GGG and reloads in my AR 1.5-2" group.
Guntrader has 5 for sale what does that say....
