Deer Stalking… reliable word of mouth recommendation from someone you know has undertaken such stalking being offered by a specific syndicate is best. Like other walks of life, stalking has its scammers. E.G., make sure there is deer, of the species sought, on the land being made available; that appropriate insurance is in place; that there is recourse for recompense if it all goes wrong. In addition, obtain and understand terms and conditions; consider the implications of allowing a syndicate leader to be a FAC mentor; make sure ‘coaches’ are suitably qualified; consider the quality of deer management, the construction & execution of a shooting plan and safety; determine if the land is over-shot.
If in doubt, contact BASC or similar.

Who's going hunting this weekend?
I was minding my own business twenty feet up a tree the other day and a thought occurred to me, how many other people are up a tree at this very moment in time engaged in the hunter's over-watch?
This particular tree is an excellent spot with a family of roe living in and around it ( we don't shoot the roe on this patch) for the last five years.
As usual I got so lost in contemplation that I almost forgot why the hell I was up that tree at that ungodly hour in the first place and so when the following pricket stepped out on to the ride with his mother, almost forgot to give them the good news...
Luckily the first shot I was presented was by the doe and the norma semi point ( a criminally underrated bullet for the business of actually killing game in my humble opinion ) bullet from my 3006 bowled her over for long enough to let me get a shot into the boiler room of the pricket too.
The sun's inexorable march across the heavens meant that it was getting close to knocking off time, especially by the time I had gralloched the deer and dragged them back to the extraction point and I so started think about packing up my things and leaving the seat.
I have developed a habit in these situations of waiting five minutes before leaving, after having made the firm decision to leave, if that makes any sense... Basically I sit still for five minutes after shooting anything just in case the deer that was lurking in the bushes decides to make one last appearance before leaving the scene of the crime.
That was Mr Fox decided to come out and have a chew on my pricket.
Naturally I shot the b******.
This is where he fell
Nothing left but to drag, tag and larder.
Oh, wait; that's not true.
There is always time for breakfast.

I am, I'm going to be sat out in the cold contemplating the Badgers waddling to and fro and wondering if any of them have snitched to the Deer that I'm there

Only if someone extends an invitation. never been hunting except for a trudge round a golf course with a shotgun - no result

Ah, now we sees where you are going wrong... You should just swing through with a shottie, not actually aim...

Well, after a hard day I declare the sun to be over the yard arm and a pint or two of ESB may be in order.
Have a good weekend peeps.
