Re: Ruger 77 in .357 magnum
Fun...??
Re: Ruger 77 in .357 magnum
I use mine on club gallery shoots for carbines using peep sights, saves wear and tear on Marlins / Winchesters etc and gets a fair bit interest as not many have seen one.
Re: Ruger 77 in .357 magnum
There have been several members in my club with them. They are used for FUN!
Re: Ruger 77 in .357 magnum
Is "having fun" classed as good reason to posess in a fascist society ?

Re: Ruger 77 in .357 magnum
Fun isn't but target shooting is, and that would be good reason.
There is at least on used in the club and I think it is used in some gallery comps. but I don't know which ones

Re: Ruger 77 in .357 magnum
I had a stainless one in 44 mag, very nice, crisp single stage trigger, lovely short barrell with mod and the action was nice amd easy going... I used mine for close fox mainly (which turned them i side out on the spot) within say 60-80m 100 would be pushing it a bit, i did go onto warminster ranges with it at 2/300 and was using full magnums, it hit the board and the black ok and with tinkering im sure a load could be found.
I entered mine at gr open events once and won a few golds....
The mod was great and it was quieter than a 17hmr, alas i never used it that much and the addition of my 30-06 proved to be my go to for deer and fox, so i sold it, had i been a millionaire ide have kept it as it was a nice gun...

When someone says "it's not about the money" you know what? it probably is all about money!

Fox control or humane despatch. I know people to use one for both and even a registered slaughterman who used one for despatching cattle. He carried his in a short guncase on the dashboard of his truck. The case wasn't shaped as a conventional case but rectangular and could be mistaken for a pool cue case.Chuck wrote:http://www.alloutdoor.com/2017/10/31/wa ... Newsletter
OK...so what could it be used for in the UK?
Re: Ruger 77 in .357 magnum
Ahhh FUN, something the UK is short on nowadays.
Didn't think .357 was a target round, well there you go.
I was actually looking for this "Fox control or humane despatch". Thanks Chapius.

Not that this is good shooting or anything, but this is a 25 round group from a Marlin 1894 shot off hand with open sights at 25m. During load development, I got a 5 shot group almost through the same hole when shooting bench rest at 25m.
It definitely has the potential for precision shooting from a gallery range point of view. It's easy to forget sometimes that its actually a handgun round.
