Over the last 100 years, all bar one Act restricting the use of firearms by UK citizens have been introduced by a "Conservative" government.
That's not a track record that gives me much encouragement when they talk about protecting individual freedoms.

Not that the usual alternative would be any better of course...

.50 and Lever Release to become Sect 5

#12 Post by TomEnfield »

So according to the gov release above, (likley) in response to the shooting in LA, .50 and lever release will moved from Sect 1 to Sect 5. Have any of the shooting represental body's had any input into this?

Also when was the last time a crime was committed using a leaver release or .50 firearm?

Thanks Christel.

Does anyone know if the NRA, BASC, Sportsmans Association, etc are fighting this?

I think it is a good idea if everybody contacts whoever might know something about this to get some feedback.

Your local PCC's office, ask them what their response will be.
Contact BASC/NRA/whoever else is out there and ask them if they intend to respond.

If this consultation is in response to the LV shooting then it is a knee jerk reaction and I do wonder if the Government has these lined up for when a shooting takes place. It didn't take AR long to publish...

If it is not in response then why.

More insane proposals from an criminally insane government - BTW, .22 rimfire semi auto - as used in LV shooting - stand by to lose that because it's way faster than any lever release.

Making crime to fight crime. What has .50 cal to do with anything?

All window dressing and bull turds because the REAL problems are being ignored!

There's a TON of laws to cover all events but the court system panders to the terrorists at every turn.

More laws = nothing! The bad guys don't care about laws. Once again the law abiding people are being scapegoated for government failures and duplicity.
Political Correctness is the language of lies, written by the corrupt , spoken by the inept!

I do wonder if the consultation is to bring the UK in line with EU laws or reaction to LV.

The .50cal is weird.

I've not seen a statement form the FCSA yet.
They might be holding off until they can get some clarification before going off half cocked.

If we lost the UK .50 cal team in the world shoot it would be another blow to international competition where amateur shooters are represented. aaarggh
