This article appeared in the most recent magazine of the Royal Canadian Legion, talking about probably the last appearance of the No 4 at the Canadian Forces Small Arms Competition.

Wouldn't it nice if those Long Branch rifles, all the remaining spares, and the remaining ball ammo found its way to the commercial market?
It is pretty amazing really that the rifle has remained in use for so long in such a harsh environment.

Actually it would be rather nice if the Canadian Rangers were allowed to keep their old issue Enfield rifles if they so chose.

The main reason they are being replaced, I am told, is that there are no more spares. A buddy of mine was an armourer in the CF a few years back, and they were having trouble finding spares for the No 4s issued to the Cadets and the Rangers even then. It can't have gotten any better with time.
