May I ask any or all F'ers on here which bullets they are using in .308 in FTR class?

I have just had a re-barrel done with a chamber taking 155 Scencar's loaded out and will also accommodate SMK 190's.

I am wondering what other heavier bullets are in use and which powders for these heavies please?

I like the look of the Bergers 200.20 but at £82 / 100....??????

You'll find a few answers for this ranging from 155 HBC, berger 155.5 and 155 hybrids to berger 185 juggernaut and 200 or 215 berger hybrids.

The 200. 20 was slow coming to the uk in full supply so not so widely used at the moment although this is likely to change........

Powders range from h4895, varget if you can get it and reload Swiss powders which are very good.

RS52 is very good for the 185 juggernaut

Don't forget that it all depends on the twist rate of your new barrel as your choice of bullet will be affected by twist rate.....

We've had some excellent results with the LOS 165 gn solid brass bullets (sold by Major Disorder of this parish) and RS52 powder. If you don't shoot on a military range they might be worth a try to find if they suit your particular rifle. We use 'em in a DTA but that isn't in the least bullet fussy.

My monochromatic friend; are solid brass bullets banished from ranges pertaining to the military? Must projectiles comprise copper, lead or a combination of both to satisfy the military?

Yes, we're told by Landmarc (who manages the MoD ranges) that solid bullets are banned on military ranges. They're new fangled things and so banned by default. US studies have shown them to be less likely to ricochet as they embed better but Landmarc never let facts get in the way of a knee jerk reaction...

I thought the main reason was that they are less likely to deform or fragment as much as a copper jacketed bullet on impact so could travel further?, possibly outside of the range safety area?.

We imagine they do deform less, but if they are embedded deep into the sand then they aren't going elsewhere....
