Reloading the 22 Savage High Power (5,6mmx52R)

Is anyone here shooting the 22 Savage HP and if so what bullets are you using? I am about to start reloading ours however I am struggling to source .227" bullets despite people listing them as available. I am tempted to try some .224" just to make it go bang however I am not sure it will be a particularly good solution.

I have not slugged the barrel.

I don't have one but have shot a delightful Ruger No. 1 so chambered with good effect on roe.

Sellier and bellot make ammunition and good 70 grain bullets in .228", they would seem to be the easiest to get for reloading.

What sort of rifle do you have?

I'm sure Adam uses one... but I imagine naked.

(I'll leave you with that double entendre vision....)

If Adam is using one I'm guessing it will be with cast bullets.

I have been struggling to find factory ammunition. The rifle is an elderly Savage Model 99 take down model.

Have you tried Mike at Westlander? He managed to sort some SB 7x65r cases for me a few years ago when no one else seemed to have any cases at all in the calibre.

It's still got a small following on the continent for use in drillings, I'm sure if anyone can, he could rustle something up.

It would be interesting to see the accuracy from that savage in due course.

I have loads of brass and dies now so it is probably going to be as easy to reload as anything. I will have a hunt through my .224" bullets and see if I have anything suitable. It is interesting that the Hornady #2280 70 grain .227" bullets apparently work with the 1:12 twist barrel whereas I would expect at least a 1:10 twist for 70 grain .224" and I assume this is entirely down to length.

Roger does not have a mold and Adam does not have anything he can put his hands on.
