AR15 straight pull recommendations
So as a fullbore newbie, on my list of need to buy asap is a straight pull AR15. I have been looking at so much info online it's making my head spin. I don't personally know people who own them so I'm not able to try any out. This means it's going to be a blind buy which is the reason for trying to get as much info as possible before handing over my hard earned.
Ideally it would be great to have one rifle with the ability to switch uppers/barrels and turn it into a .22lr which would save me having to buy a 22 AR15 as well but I'm not sure if that would be feasible.
Requirements are:
Must cost under £2000 :)
Thanks in advance

Mark Bradley at http://www.bradleyarms.com/ makes very nice AR-15s, lob him an email explaining what you want and see what he suggests. His work is to a very high standard, he's well fussy. But he will try and persuade you of the delights of CSR!
Careful now/that sort of thing
Re: AR15 straight pull recommendations
If you want a side charger, which is faster to operate than using the standard charging handle, then have a look at this.
This is the earlier version, prototype, but has a carbon fibre Proof Research barrel in the picture.

The latest handguard will be MLOK.

A search will also help as this has been posted upon extensively here, as you can see from the above already the pretendy AR brigade are a highly partisan lot and these discussions can denigrate into my make of gun is better than your make of gun fist fights. There have even been threats of legal action over the damned things. FFS!
So these threads carry a pretendy AR alert!
As with all firearms, try as many as you can of your chosen type and choose the one that you prefer from the maker you prefer.
I have yet to see a pretendy AR comparison post that isn't chronically biased.
That said there are good guns of the type out there. As to which is best that is the one you are most happy with not what other people are happy with.
Blind buys are not good and have a high chance of ending in tears, firearms are personal things and as such need to be handled and tactilely appreciated in three dimensions.

Dromia makes a good point.
A side by side HANDS ON comparison of the various brands is a good idea.
In a few months the Winter league of Civilian Service Rifle starts. Why not pop down ? On the firing point you will see ARs from pretty much EVERY brand currently available.
We are a friendly bunch and happy to chat / show you what we have. Bradders has just popped a Lothar Walther on my rifle which I intend to use in the coming winter league.

Re: AR15 straight pull recommendations
There are about a half dozen currently for sale on guntrader, most have a side cocking handle which is essential on this type of gun.
I suppose it depends on what you want it for, ie a cool range toy or a competition race gun? If it's a competition rifle then it's all about which make of trigger and barrel manufacturer, the choice of rest of the components is just cosmetic. The top CSR shooters rifle look quite basic, the money is spent on triggers and optics.
If however it's going to be a range toy then it doesn't matter what you buy provided it looks cool and tactical.

Ideally I would love to go along to some of the Civilian Service Rifle shoots but (if I am correct in presuming that these take place on a weekend) due to my working Saturdays and Sundays that would be almost impossible unless I get the opportunity to change my job!breacher wrote:Dromia makes a good point.

Correct! It alternates between Saturdays and Sundays each month October to April.Ideally I would love to go along to some of the Civilian Service Rifle shoots but (if I am correct in presuming that these take place on a weekend) due to my working Saturdays and Sundays that would be almost impossible unless I get the opportunity to change my job!
