Shield on my No.4

Hi all, I have had my No.4 Mk2 for about 5 years now. It was hiding in an RFD's cellar for a long time and wasn't proofed. On the stock is inset a silver shield. I have never been able to find out anything about it. Best guess so far is that it was a prize rifle. The hallmark is rubbed off too much, I even took it into a jewelers to have it checked out (I called first razz ) but they could not tell anything about the hallmarks.
It had Parker Hale target sights on it and shoots exceptionally well for a No.4. The Shield is small about 3/4" high.
Does anyone recognise the shield? if so please get in touch.

Marcus

Well it was assayed in Birmingham (anchor) and the lion means it's .925 sterling silver if that helps so it looks like the date mark is the problem, have you looked at it under a jewellers loup, I always have one around to look at markings. As for the crest and moto, could take some hard work to crack !

It looks to me to be a pocket watch chain fob inlet into the stock.

Looks like that to me also, and not a very good at that to boot. Clearly a home handyman job.
