Hi all
i wont name the dealer but when i enquire about me selling a gun to him as part exchange he says to send it down via tnt, he says he is authorised to request firearms picked up from your home address? and he can organise this
I never feel easy with this and would rather it went by RFD to him.

is this ok as i must say i have never come across this before
any advice appreciated

Could be via RFD NET. They are very competitive.

I've done it, arranged by email, collection day arranged , rifle packed up and secured with copy of my FAC inside. Collected from my door by TNT given receipt for package. RFD emailed next day to say safely received.
Brilliant system.

Phil, what was the cost via TNT? Obviously the company knows what it is but did the driver know what he was collecting?

would i still have to notify the police as i would be worried incase the buyer didnt want it as well

Not sure of the cost , all arranged by RFD on their account, it got lost in the final bill, but that was not huge. As for the driver knowing what he was carrying, I have no idea. But the shape of the box and the company named as delivery address would have meant it was an easy guess.
Rifle was returned same way, I'd have no problem doing it again. An RFD/RFD transfer will usually use TNT or parcelforce I believe.

My situation is a bit different, the rifle was being sent to have some work done and then returned, it was not going to come off my cert, the big question really is how much do you trust the person you're sending it to, in my case I had no concerns and the receipt from TNT had the delivery address on it.

the dealer is a well known one, not that i dont trust him, far from it, its just sending via a courier to pick it up, i could send it via rfd i suppose
he has a buyer but i am a bit wary of the buyer wishing it on the cheap and perhaps thinking i dont want the hassel of sending it back?.

'97 FA amendment Act

s32

"Transfers of firearms etc. to be in person.
(1)This section applies where, in Great Britain—.
(a)a firearm or ammunition to which section 1 of the 1968 Act applies is sold, let on hire, lent or given by any person, or.
(b)a shot gun is sold, let on hire or given, or lent for a period of more than 72 hours by any person,.
to another person who is neither a registered firearms dealer nor a person who is entitled to purchase or acquire the firearm or ammunition without holding a firearm or shot gun certificate or a visitor’s firearm or shot gun permit.
(2)Where a transfer to which this section applies takes place—.
(a)the transferee must produce to the transferor the certificate or permit entitling him to purchase or acquire the firearm or ammunition being transferred;.
(b)the transferor must comply with any instructions contained in the certificate or permit produced by the transferee;.
(c)the transferor must hand the firearm or ammunition to the transferee, and the transferee must receive it, in person..
(3)A failure by the transferor or transferee to comply with subsection (2) above shall be an offence..

douglas670 check with the Police and BASC...I think what you are suggesting is illegal.

My brother in law works as a driver for TNT, he has mentioned to me in the past that he carries a lot of Firearms and ammunition, unfortunately he has no interest in the subject so I have no more information to give you, other than to confirm that TNT do move firearms around. I do not believe that he is on any special team or has undergone any further security clearance etc, just an ordinary driver.
