Is anyone using 75gn Amax in .223 with 1/9 twist?? If so what loads are folks using?

I have a box kicking about and want to give them a bash in Debs' Mossberg MVP.

I have Vit133 and 140, IMR4895, Elcho 17 to hand.

I use them in my Savage with N140. They shoot very well indeed out to 1000 yards.

I have used up to 77gn with N140 in my mvp 1 in 9 with no issues.

According to the Berger twist rate stability calculator. the 75gr Amax is marginally unstable in a 1/9 twist. But, hey give them a bash, they may work.

I loaded some for use in my rifle which is 1in 8". Two mates tried them also, both 1 in 9s. One, a Mossberg MVP with a 24inch barrel shot them well. A Savage with a 20 inch barrel didn't like them at all.

I'd loaded with Ramshot Tac, close to the maximum. It may have been an extra velocity gain in the 24" that helped them along their way.

I haven't shot .233 for a few years, but I did have reasonable results using 75 grain A-max bullets. This was with 25.8grains of varget through a 28" match barrel, and using fire formed cases. The twist was 1:9.

Thanks all for the info, I know that 1/9 is a bit slow for heavier rounds. I think these 75gn were from back when I had my 1/7 AR.

Data in is the Viht loading tables. My savage puts them out at 2900 fps.
