What .357 under lever?
Hi,
I have applied for a .357 slot on my FAC and looking at the options I can choose from the following:
- Rossi
- Uberti
- Henry Big Boy
I was wondering what people here own, and what the general consensus is on the above?
I like the look of the Uberti as it loads from the side like the original Marlin however I could be swayed.
Thanks

Re: What .357 under lever?
iv got an early non safety catch s/steel octagon barrel rossi, bought it in as new, un fired condition and its great !
it can be a tad fussy cycling .38s but as they cost about the same as .357m why bother with them
its only seen about 300 rounds and its getting smoother every time its used
dont rule out the cheapies
edit - pics are from when i bought it......

Re: What .357 under lever?
I see that Winchester is not on your list GOOD cos I had one kept breaking the lifter, so after 3 replacements traded it in, it was rubbish from new.
A friend has a Henry Big Boy very nice rifle, looking forward to having a go with it, seems to be well made.

Do you want to fit optical sights of some description?
If so, the Uberti isn't really an option.
If you are happy with good old fashioned iron sights, then I'd go for the Uberti, but then again I'm biased in having one.
The Rossi is bloody good value though, and with lots of trick bits for slicking them up, the Rossi is still worth considering. The Rossi is very light as well, and available in a lovely stainless steel as an option.
A good mate and fellow shooter, has a Henry in .357, and his wife has a s/s Rossi in .357, and I've shot both, and I'd take the Rossi over the Henry, only because I don't really like the tube loading system of the Henry. The Henry has a very nice action though, and is accurate.

Check out the Chiappa - kind of a deluxe Rossi.

Thanks all for the replies, some great points raised, I'm wanting to stick with the iron sights so no scope, will look at the Uberti and Rossi in more detail.

Would love a marlin however I spoke to a chap at Dauntsey guns and he said the new Remlin isn't made in .357 anymore only .44, also I've heard horror stories and as someone fairly new to the shooting world I wouldn't know how to identify a good original marlin.

Re: What .357 under lever?
The Henry is super smooth and very accurate. The only downside is the loading system. It doesn't have a loading gate - it loads via the magazine tube itself. It's not a problem if you're not in a hurry, but it's probably not suitable for competitions. Apart from that, it can't be faulted, apart from the fact that it prefers cycling 357 magnums rather than 38 Spl.

Re: What .357 under lever?
My only underlever is a Winchester trapper angle eject in 38/357. I bought it after the pistol ban. I have broken one lifter in all the time I have owned it other than that it works flawlessly. Its a simple job to change a lifter.
So it wont be going any were soon.
