I'm looking for suggestions for a cheap scope (£300-400) for a SMLE. Use up to 300 yards.

I would say look for a Pecar as it would look vaguely in keeping with the rifle however some have 26,0mm tubes which means the rings become pricey.

Ideally you need to get a 'No Gunsmith mount' in order to avoid drilling the SMLE and thus reducing it's value. The Fultons ones are said to be the best but are not cheap. Best to give them a ring and see if they have any in stock and what the price is.

Do Fultons do one ( no gunsmith) for a No1 Mk111

XS Sights in the USA do a good range of scope mounts for classic military rifles BUT they are designed to be used in making up Scout Rifle type builds as the scope mounts fit on the barrel in place of the rear sights, and they require a long eye relief scope.
Got one on my Win 94 Trapper - always fancied the same idea/design on a little Swede M38 carbine; it'd make for a really handy fox/deer gun yet still do good range work on the Fig.11's, etc.
