P14 newly aquired, some questions

Hi All!
I got myself a new old rifle: an Enfield P14 made by Remington. It has non-matching bolt, a volley sight and a brass buttstock disc. I don't expect it to draw a lot of attention from the arms collecting crowd, but I like it (like I like every firing piece I own :-D).
I would like to ask for some help in deciphering the markings on the Rifle.
On the receiver ring it has:
Serial number: [RE] 144990
G.R. over the standards mark (the crown is not visible)
Broad arrow mark
and also:
D
31
A
["D" over "31" over "A"]
and some other markings which are hardly discernible due possibly to reblueing. I can't post pictures untill I get my camera back.
There is a broad arrow mark on the butt's wood, "IR" over "191 " in the circle (looking like 1917 or 1914 maybe!?) and also an "X" to the right of the circle.
The brass disc (I've learned that it is unlikely to be found on a rifle made after 1916 - true?) has the following:
A.A. [Armament Articifers?]
5.17 [May 1917? - issue date]
E.I.R.R

What does "E.I.R.R" stand for, please?
