I have just been given a Lee 7/8 Oz slug mould plus a few dozen already cast and ready to go and I wondered if any forum members have given them a whirl and how they got on with them.

I've found them to be great sea fishing weights.

Ah, that could be why they were given to me....

Blackstuff prefers the Lee slug mold - which explains many many things!!

Lighter, faster slug has less artillery-like trajectory, less recoil for rapid following shots and 7/8th of lead is more than enough to put a hole in some cardboard, or that's the theory. My mold is still on the shelf gather dust owning to my lack of enthusiasm for rolling my own, the relatively low price of factory stuff recently and the inability to source the components required to build them, owing to the fact that 99% of the information out there is for US components that are apparently hard to come by here. 8-)

Just finishing up my rifle reloading press means I'm unlikely to be starting with the slugs any time soon.

If you do manage to come up with a recipe I'd be most interested.

I have some load data here plus some already built, I will post it when I have grabbed the box out of the Armoury.

Mark, have you looked at SIARM for components? I've had excellent service from them, even buying ready primed Fiocchi hulls cheaper then I could get primers here!.

These work nicely and are €6.80/100 http://www.siarm.com/product_info.php?c ... cd55daafcc

Slugs, €2.90/10

I still have quite a few hulls and slugs here if you want to try them?

I've been using the Lee 1oz slug for a while and found it shoots OK. I started by using ready primed Fiocchi cases, plastic wad and plastic over slug wad disc, 21.6g of Vectan AS powder. I then roll crimped the case to hold it all together.
I got this load and all the bits from John at FES in Kent, see his web site for more details.
Since plastic wads are no longer allowed at Bisley where I shoot my slug I developed a load using fibre wads and a paper tube round the slug, details are on Fullbore UK. This also shot OK.
I understand that the price of AS has recently increased but FES will be supplying Maxam CSB5 as an equivalent at a good price.

What recipe you running with them, Jeff? I believe in their boundless stupidity, the NRA have said that plastic wads can still be used if they are attached to the slug.... Plastic wad ban is down to a "litter issue".

Doesn't seem to bother the CNC leaving tiny bits of polypropylene targets everywhere...
