just been reading up about 9mm ar's with glock lowers as i am thinking about buying the sgc one
however can anyone who has one, plse answer some questions

1] does the bolt have the tungsten weight at the back of the carrier (as per colt spec)

2) does it have a good feed ramp

3) is ambi mag release any good

4) milled or billet receiver?

5) is the firing pin contained within a spring (stop slam fire)

Question four is an odd one. Receivers are usually forged or milled out of a billet of aluminium. So milled and billet would be the same?

oh ok you are prob right, so then its forged ot milled ?

1 No it is purpose made by SGC so does not need weights

2) It has a feed ramp is it a good one, well afaik they all feed fine now teething issue is sorted (it was not a feed ramp issue)

3) Yes I fitted mine myself after buying from SGC at phoenix meeting a few years ago.

4) They are either LH or RH no option for forged or machined.

5) Yes

My one is one of the very first Glock ones and the bolt face needed modifying to feed properly all new ones come correct.
One of our members has the newest version and it works fine with no feed issues.

cant wait to get one although it would be nice if had a standard AR shell deflector, just for looks really

is there a buffer spacer in the tube? (to prevent bolt over travel)

and last question, is the barrel chromed lined ?

Before getting mine I played around with the Southern Gun website "gun-builder" and had decided to leave off the ambi mag release and the muzzle brake. But I checked the Guntrader website and saw that "Shooting Supplies" in Bromsgrove had a SGC LR 9mm in stock with a more expensive / better build so seeing as I was heading down to the Shooting Show at Stoneleigh it made sense to buy that one rather than wait however long and still travel 30 odd miles to my "local" RFD..... Anyway, I'm glad that I got a version with the ambi mag release as it works really well.

Another recommendation I will make is buy some Magpul 9mm "Glock" compatible magazines... they work great and are SO EASY to strip and clean compared to factory Glock magazines.

Mine does have a heavy buffer attached to the buffer spring. I believe they are made by SGC specifically for the 9mm Lever-release.

So does the rifle NEED the this heavy buffer in order to operate or can a standard carbine buffer work as well? Its just that SGC want £122 just for the extension tube/spring/buffer and on Brownells uk, you can get a stock assembly comprising of the stock, receiver extension tube, index plate, buffer, recoil spring and castle nut. All for £160.

Considering the gun operates on straight blowback which relies on all of the components in the action being timed and weighted correctly I'd say it was a brave/foolhardy person that starts messing around with the springs, buffers etc, especially if you're thinking of making it lighter! Just make sure you're not operating it from your left shoulder with your face toward the ejection port

I wasn't thinking of making in lighter, just a bit cheaper £££
