I've just spent a pleasurable couple of hours reloading my first ever batch of 54r
All are loaded with the starting load of Viht N140 and there is a range of bullet weights from 148gr to 180gr and are a mix of PPU (170gr) and Russian and Egyptian milsurp bullets.Cases are PPU, Sellior&Bellot and some reloaded Russian steel and Egyptian brass milsurp cases.
I weighed each charge and only did one at a time so as not to get any mishaps and the PPU and S&B cases were primed with a Lee Autoprime and bullets seated in the Lee Loader and it was actually quite therapeutic
Once I get to the range I'll post how they shoot, hopefully they will be more consistent than the milsurp I have been using.Once I see how they shoot I will think about trying different powder weights.

Well done comrade, with that level of production you'll be arming your Russian beautiesfor decades!
It's suprising how therapeutic using the Lee Loader is and i've found the 54r a lovely round to reload. It'll be good to see the range results.
Better watch out, you may get the reloading bug!

Thank you Tovarisch
I've still got nearly 500 primed milsurp cases to load so they'll keep me quiet for a bit.Once you get a rhythm going it is quite a quick process and as I said I just measured one charge, charged one case and then seated the bullet to prevent any problems.

You did not use the same starting load for the 148 grain the 170grain and the 180 grain did you.
Looking good beware it can become addictive.

No, I used the starting load specified for the relevant bullet weigh from a reputable manual
For some reason though the data that came with the Lee Loader gives a start load of 42.3gr of N140 for all three bullet weights........
