Not being a great used of Sako rings I have a question, does anyone know the maximum 'scope objective with a set of Sako low rings on a Sako 75 heavy barrel. The rifle came with high rings and they are erm, way too high for my liking and choice of 'scope. I had a feeling it was 48-50mm however I am not convinced.

Found this so added in case anyone else ever needs to know.

David, my wife has a Leupold 8.5-25 X 50 Long Range Target scope on her Sako 75 6PPC USA, heavy barrel; with the Butler Creek cover in place the OD is 61.5mm and has 3mm clear above the barrel.

Henry, do you know what size rings she is using? I am not not totally convinced by chart I posted.

I have a varmint profile barrel sako 85. The rifle is fitted with a leupold 3-18x44 scope with butler creek scope caps the od measures 56.5 mm, mounted in extra low optilock rings this gives me just over 2mm clearance. I would say the chart is a pretty accurate guide.

They are 30mm stainless lo, as per chart. I would not believe it either, until I assembled the rig.

I run extra low rings on a 56mm objective on my 75. Just clears.

I've often wondered why you need bigger but then required higher rings to set up NV on that rifle to avoid the dreaded rail.

Sounds like a I need a set of extra low rings then, even with medium the 'scope feels to be very high in comparison to my other rifles so it will be good to get things down to a reasonable height.

I think medium is what I ended up needing for my Starlight set up. It's too high for a normal scope arrangement on the 75.
