Quick Question re FAC Grant Application - Not for me !

Dear All

Just a quick one which was asked to me by someone the other day who is a non-shooter.

A person applies for the First Grant of an FAC. Completes forms, pays money and sends off. As we are all aware, cheque is cashed first before anything else is done. Process then starts in usual way.

If then the application is subsequently declined for a perfectly clear and valid reason such as not meeting good cause or reason for example, would the fee submitted be reimbursed ? Personally I would doubt it as anyone, prior to making an application, should be furnished with sufficient information to conlcude if they have half a chance of a grant being made. (I dont wish to start a debate of good reason etc BTW - but used it as an example). Furthermore, costs would have been incurred by the Constabulary concerned so would it be a case of hard luck matey ?

Cannot find anything on this online so thought I would ask here.........................

Thanks in advance.

The fee and the photographs should be returned if a certificate is refused.

It's in the HO guidance.

Journalist looking for a story, I wonder?

Thank you Rockhopper.

Err no Zanes - just a perfectly simple question that I was asking an answer for. As I clearly stated in my post, I had looked online and couldn't locate an answer to my point. As for being a Journalist - mmm no. I actaully resent that cynicism. I have been a SGC holder for 35 1/2 years and an FAC holder for about 32 1/2 years. Oh and a County shot at both small bore and full bore.

I was purely asking a question from the vast knowledge bank on this Forum as I could not locate an answer.

If I was a Journalist I would have probably done it myself on the basis that it would never get granted and then been able to write an article on wasting Police resources, the cost to the Tax Payer etc etc etc.

The simple act of seeing the other Posts I have made on this Forum might actually have made you delete before Posting such an unfounded and cynical comment.

Given the legalized theft of our handguns, the BS regarding semi-auto rifles of 1988, the current EU obsession with fighting terrorism via the unusual route of hammering legitimate shooters, plus the general 'slow news week - let's do a sensationalist piece on shooters' that is always in play ... if you're not naturally suspicious then you clearly don't appreciate the situation. :)

Right... I'm not suspicious of a potential journo asking a question about what happens if your application is declined? Big story that.

Firearms applicants get to waste police resources for free headline. When are they going to pay the full cost of providing the service....

You're right. We should definitely treat anyone who isn't a shooter with the utmost suspicion when they ask a question. That'll improve the public image of shooting in the UK...

If I was a journo wanting to do some damage I'd write about the tin foil hat brigade in the shooting community...
