Why dont opticians sell wrap around prescription safety glasses? or do they?
Ive been looking online for ages and can only find "standard" safety glasses with strap on side bits which I dont want.
If anyone knows of somewhere please let me know. :good:

Thanks for that but these have prescription inserts.
I was looking for wraparounds that have a prescription "wrap around" which it would appear they dont make or at least I cant find any.
I probably should have been clearer in my opening post.

There is, (or used to be!), a technical problem when making prescription lenses with steep curves. Steep curves give good wrap around effect but can induce peripheral distortions which could render spex unusable. There is now digital lens design which can provide the best poss vision across a lens for a given prescription in a given frame or mount - at a cost! An insert is a cheaper, more functional method.
Wrap around safety spex are afocal ie Plano or having no focal power. This is easier to produce. If you pm me with your prescription I can 'make a phone call' to a manufacturer I know who will give the latest advice. If he can't, it can't be done successfully! Hope this helps

Have a word with RX Sport:
http://www.rxsport.co.uk/categories/Bro ... /Shooting/
They offer prescription wrap around Wiley and Oakley glasses.

I have prescription Oakleys from them, which are great (but not cheap). I went for a style with two lenses so I can mix prescriptions for different shooting scenarios, but you can get single lens prescription glasses if that's better for you.

Do the Oakleys you have use inserts inside the main wrap around lens?
From what I can see on the RXsport site the prescription ones all use inserts.

I contacted them before but have not bought from them (I am still using contact lenses with ESS glasses) . However they confirmed they can do wrap-around shooting glasses with corrected balistic lenses. Not all the frames are suitable & they willadvise you which one are.

Wileys are available with prescription lenses (not inserts) i.e.

Oakleys don't do any with inserts. You can get Oakley frames with separate interchangeable prescription lenses like this:

or with one interchangeable wraparound lens like this:

N.B. these are just a couple of examples of the styles they offer. There is a huge range of styles and lens types you can choose if you go this route. You can get photochromic, clear, tinted, polarised all with a prescription.

RX Sport are very knowledgeable about this and have their own optometrist, they are not just an online sunglasses retailer. They also have a great home trial system where they can send you different frames and tints to make sure you're getting what you want before committing to spending big bucks on a pair of prescription glasses.

And I'm not on commission before you ask ;)
