I was told today while shooting on a gallery range at my home club that I shouldn't be wearing an ex-army Multi Terrain Pattern Camouflaged smock as it was "against Home Office guidlines. Only been shooting for a year or so and not heard of this before.

Is it true, very interested to know.

Certainly the NRA rules are that unless you are serving military you shouldn't be wearing Camo on the range.

It's about the image of Gung Ho Rambo wannabes that having armed guys in Paramilitary wear displays about shooters to the wider public.

Thats true but go to Bisley on any day people are shooting and you may well see all types of Camo being worn from modern DPM to WW2 copy patterns like the German Pea pattern, my waterproof coat is Real Tree pattern, nobody has ever said you can't wear that. Even seen people in the Bisley range office booking in wearing camo.

Is it due to MTP being a current issue pattern?

You've joined the wrong club.

There's an inordinate number of busybodies in the UK shooting community.

You can wear what you like at my clubs. They are private clubs with restricted access and NRA "rules" and regulations are irrelevant.

The NRA don't like people wearing full head-to-toe cammo, but there are plenty of people with DPM Jacket or DPM Trousers around. As for it being a 'Home Office Regulation' that sounds like total BS.

Yup, have also worn my Arktis Dancam pattern waterproof smock (and trousers) on occasion in foul weather at Bisley without anyone saying anything. It does only get put on if it's peeing down though.

So I take it you think rules about clothing are a good thing?

What do you have to say about the image presented by the over priveleged toffs in blasers and straw hats?

Or those weirdos with the leather bondage gear and bizzare head gear, with 'national health specs'?

in CSR matches at bisley, there are some shooters who wear head to toe in camo ! however they are not wearing any cap badges so they are not inpersonating any state offical !
who cares what ones wears anyway. if a shooter wants wear cammo with a ammo vest and shoot his ar-15 so what (as long is not it hasnt got any badges on ) its not a threat to you or to anyone !

Why the hell should we be worried about what the public might think of them???. And why are they "weirdos"?, just because what they wear or may do behind closed doors differs from what you may wear or do doesn't make someone a "weirdo".......thats just intolerance.As long as they ain't hurting anyone the way I see it is that folks can do what they want.If we were all the same the world would be a very boring place.
