Grim milestone: Chicago tops 1,000 shootings weeks earlier than recent years

The number of people shot in Chicago so far this year has already passed 1,000, a grim milestone as gun violence in the city continues at a pace not seen since the 1990s.

The city reached that dubious mark Wednesday, six to nine weeks earlier than in the previous four years, according to data compiled by the Tribune.

The day saw one 14-hour stretch in which 13 people were shot, including a 4-year-old boy hit in the foot as he walked with his mother in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side. In the nearby Austin police district alone, four people were injured in three shootings during the day.

We don't have this problem in the UK. We have different guns laws.

Chicago shootings have nothing to do with gun laws as these shootings were comitted by criminals ! Mainly organised gangs ! That state has stricter gun laws then most states !

Are you thinking that implies cause and effect?

We have fewer criminals with guns than Chicago so less gun crime than Chicago

Don't give the Government any ideas with your logic, you'll have them banning all guns so we have no gun crime kukkuk

Can't compare apples and oranges.

Chicago has since I lived there gone feral. Almost on par with Mexico.

Gun laws or no gun laws, makes no difference in Chicago where people are a law unto themselves.

Mmmm... I'll bow out of this one. My attitiude to gun laws and gun culture is different to others. To me guns are a hobby and that's all. I don't want guns to defend myself nor do I want others to have guns to defend themselves. Others disagree - I'm not saying I'm right and others are wrong.

I would say everyone on here see firearms as a hobby, those 1000 shootings in Chicago are down to criminals with guns not law abiding gun owners which we all are. All the gun control measures in the world, including complete bans, will not prevent criminals using firearms anymore than it will prevent terrorist acts with illegally obtained firearms.
