Right oomans,

We now have space availabubble and so have installed a dedicated reloading area at the back of the sett garage. We have a very sturdy bench about 1.5 long. Under it, at the left paw side, is a cabinet with some drawers in it for storage space. Over it, attached to the wall behind the bench, are some storage bins to keep stiff in. How would you recommend we lay out our kit ? We are right pawed, so we are thinking of having:

* Case decapping and cleaning area at the left of the bench (we might try and have a dedicated decapping press)
* Case lube pad just left of centre
* Powder scales central on the bench
* Our press (Rockchucker Supreme) right of the centre of the bench

Does that make sense?

Depends on how you are doing to use the kit.

A case lube pad makes no sense at all.

We want a logical work flow from decapping and cleaning the fired brass, lubing the cases prior to resizing, then refilling them with fresh bangs...

Just set it up and go for it. You'll soon work out where everything should be.

I just lube with my finger prior to putting into the sizing die.

I decap and size at the same time, I clean my bras with the spent primer in place.

Are you going to prime the cases?

Oh yes, we'll put a primer in them. They won't go bang otherwise will they ?

What are the pros and cons of cleaning your bras(s) with the primer in place? We assumed it was better to pop the old primer out and then clean.

I find that primers pockets attract cleaning media.

If you feel your pockets need cleaning, then a quick twist with a suitably sized screw driver blade does the job.

I usually do mine every half dozen firings whether they need it or not but I use a Lyman motorised case prep station with that I use in conjunction with a motorised Lyman case trimmer that has a real dandy revolving steel brush on it that cleans the pockets just fine.

Will you be priming on the press?

Cleaning is best performed off bench in my opinion, then onto case preparation, powder throwing, seating and boxing and get it shot. My cleaning station is a good twenty feet from the powder throwing.

I'd say deprime and resize too, a quick twist with a pocket cleaner now and then is usually enough.

Consider your scales at eye height too as a thought.

If you've got a nice garage in the sett, a separate case cleaning area would be good, keep all that media or water or whatever out of the bench which should only ever see nice shiny cases...
