For those that get upset by using the wrong names....

With the forum's attitude to naming things correctly, ( e.g. bullets, heads, cases, etc), I draw your attention to the May issue of Sporting Gun, and their Stalking Guide special, where there is a diagram of a "cartridge"....

No idea if this is intended as a 1st April jape, but its just so wrong.....!!

I thought the "running" April Fool joke in the sporting press was that Yardley was still being given work by them?
I'd say the OP's item is an editorial snafu/typo
You'd be very shocked at the "knowledge" (or lack of it) from some of the staff employed at the major importers/retailers, etc.
Likewise, the publishers have ZERO clue on the individual technicalities for the specialisms of their clients line if business...

I was reading a Jack Hayes book recently, they are usually proper ripping yards of SOE types in WWII however on this occasion the author refers to a Sten magazine as a 'cartridge' Normally he is reasonably good on such things so gawd knows what he was thinking and obviously it was not picked up when proof read.

Unfortunately both Sporting Gun and Shooting Times have printed several articles in recent times written by people with a limited knowledge of correct firearms terminology.
Thankfully usually there are still writers like Laurie Holland, Bruce Potts and Lewis Potter who are far more careful regarding terminology in what they write. These guys with one or two other exceptions are the only reason I continue to buy the magazines as they are the only guys having something worthwhile to say.

For those that get wound up by "bullet heads":

Whilst I'm firmly in the camp of call things by their proper names.
Seeing a bullet called a bullet head is not really so hard to believe, and even if we know its not what we'd consider the correct terminology, if someone says it, we know what they're talking about. and with that being the case, if we know what they're talking about is it still wrong?
The bullet fits in the "neck" of the case. A "Head" as we know it is the
case head, however if someone specifies that they're talking about a bullet head, then we know they mean the projectile.
Ergo, would it still be wrong when everyone knows what someone is talking about. Isn't that the evolution of language itself?
That Privi box made me think it, if even the manufacturers are sending out boxes of bullets as "Bullet Heads" then surely it's the natural progression of the language itself? Someone specifically talking about a case head, would in almost all instances be clear on which "head they're talking about" plus it doesn't fit in the neck. The neck and the "bullet head" are touching...
