Sorry this may be a silly question, but having never done an RFD transfer before, how does this work?

Do you need to inform the RFD that will receive the firearm and get their concent or is this done by the seller?

Well one of you has to contact the receiving RFD or he may simply refuse to accept the firearm from the carrier.

Just follow the instructions on your FAC carefully and if in doubt contact your local FEO. Don't follow advice blindly that has been given on the internet as many insist that the way that they have carried out transfers in the past is correct when in fact the system has "changed". In actual fact the system hasn't changed at all just that firearms departments are now insisting that it is now done the way that it was always intended to be done or so they say.

Also there's the matter of who is going to pay any fee that he could charge for handling the transfer. If you are on good terms with the receiving RFD he may waive any charge as after all for him it's only really a matter of ensuring that you are entitled to possess the firearm before handing it over. His administration and paperwork should be minimal.

You do a deal with the seller who agrees to take the piece to his RFD who will be paid to send the item.
You talk to your local RFD and ask him to receive the item for which you will pay a fee.

Buyer then collects from said RFD

Removing the bit about the seller having to take to the RFD (at a fee) to ship to buyer's RFD.
The Seller can ship directly if he can find a suitable carrier.

as mentioned already, read your FAC, if your selling to the person then technically they have to post you their FAC you enter it onto that and post back then arrange the shipping to the RFD who will check and hand it over to the buyer

when RFD to RFD transfers happen, the receiving dealer should not fill in the FAC or notify police.

I know thats how its been done for ever LOL, but the FAC is very clear on the matter

Yip - a tad more difficult, what with some of the local Post Offices having been closed
