Vortex Viper owners... a question..
After long consideration I've just ordered a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50 to go on my new .308 and now I think I've made the wrong choice...
The majority of my shooting will be at my home club at 25 and 50m, with the occasional chance to shoot longer ranges.
My question is, will the viper focus at 25m..?? the specs say parallax adjustment from 50m to infinity, so does that mean 50m is also the shortest range it will focus at..?
TIA

Re: Vortex Viper owners... a question..
You might have trouble seeing the reticle clearly at magnifications higher than x10. I used to use a Redfield Revelution x4-12 on my 22 at 25m and since the scope parallax is set to 75m I couldn't focus on the Ritchie and the target without really reducing the magnification.
My reccemendation would be to exchange it for a scope that can parallax down to the distance you need unless you are happy shooting at low mag.

Just curious.... why have you chosen a .308 to shoot such short distances ?

They do a nice 2.5-10 first focal plane for less money I think. That has parallax back to 10m I think.

Because I can..??HH1 wrote:Just curious.... why have you chosen a .308 to shoot such short distances ?

I have other (smaller calibre) firearms, all of which will go further than 50m, but at the moment the club only has 25 and 50m ranges.
I will get out and about (Bisley, Barton Rd, etc) with the .308 occasionally, but most of my enjoyment from shooting any of my firearms will mainly be on the club ranges.
Safety - if you mean the Viper PST, that only goes down to 35m, and is almost twice the price..!
Welsh - thanks, I'll try on lower magnification, or simply only use that rifle on the 50m range.

Just had a look through my 6.5-20 x 50 Viper, and 50yds is the minimum.

Thanks Pete, I think I'll see if I can cancel the order.

Slightly OT - I did hear Isle were looking at building a 100m range, are they any further forward with the plans?
