Hi all,

If it's not against any rules can anybody list some good (cheap) places to buy brass and bullets from?

44 and 308 specifically but in general too.

Brass
The best pistol brass you'll get for the money is starline. I've used ppu, starline and remington in 357mag but find starline to be the nicest brass at a good price. Henry Krank sell this for £22.40 in the UK. Shooting supplies in Luxembourg sell it for £20. Both vendors are out of stock though.

For 308,you can't beat Lapua brass for the money. You can buy this for euro to the pound in Europe (ballisticservice24.eu and shooting supplies eu from above) so there's good savings there.

Bullets
You'll save a lot of money if you buy this in bulk. I can't say much of 44mag because I'm not sure what type of shooting you do. I buy lead 358 "boolits" by the 500 which costs me around £30-£35 depending which UK vendor I go with. For the 308 it depends what type of shooting you're doing. My run of the mill round is a 155gr bullet which is either the Sierra Matchking, Lapua Scenar or the Hornady A Max. I'll go with the cheapest one as all three shoot very well in my rifle. I buy these again in bulk from ballisticservice24.eu or shooting supplies eu as the price per hundred (including shipping) is the same price as buying privi bullets off the shelf in the UK. You just have to be careful with the supply, if you order from Europe you may have to order in advance as these websites are quite popular and they usually order directly from the manufacturer.

Will be taking the 308 to 600meters in the summer.

25 and 59 meter plinking for the 44 so just cheap lead kranks looks good and close by too so can even save on shipping.

The 240gr RNFP boolits from Kranks are the bees knees over 5gr Titegroup in my .44 Mag Rossi 92.

Dont forget the 155gr Optimus HBC.

Available here in the UK and a cracking little .308 bullet that is one of the cheapest available and ran rings round the usual suspects in the 2 .303 rifles I developed loads for (one being a Dolphin FTR Rifle).

After developing a load for my M67 I promptly sold the 500 box of 2156 SMKs I had, they did not come close.

Maggot is that a mis print you stated you developed loads for two .303 rifles with .308 bullets. .303 are usually .311

As per my posts, I was bringing in 155Gr Noslers (which outshoot SMKs in my rifle) for around 17p/bullet. When I checked for some heavier bullets for my new rifle a few weeks back the movement of the exchange rates had skewed things fairly badly; there's still a saving to be made on the 1000 packs but for smaller quantities (in particular 250 packs of the 190Gr bullets) the saving was non existent. For comparison those 155Gr Noslers in packs of 1000 come out at a little over 22p/bullet including shipping, plus currency conversion mark up. I'll probably have some more of the 155Gr at some point but I have a little over 2000 on stock at the moment.

Obviously amortising shipping across multiple packs of bullets adjusts things slightly.

7.62x54r bullet is .311" ( with exceptions for Finnish rifles) but for some reason the majority of reloading data for it seems to be based on a .308 bullet, especially from US sources.

I supposed a .303 could be reloaded with .308 bullets if the bore is nice and tight.......

The 155gr Optimus bullet Maggot refers to are made specifically for the .308 they are used by the likes of F class shooters he states that he is using it in his Dolphin FTR Rifle which makes me think its a miss print. .
Its not a good idea to use .308 bullets in a .311 Nagant bore bit of a waste. I use 174 grain .311 bullets normally used in .303 rifles with N140 powder for Nagants or a gas checked cast bullet suitably sized for the bore.

No, pipe down you lot, its a miss print.

I dont think you would see a .303 Dolphin unless Mik has had a brain fart, well spotted though. I was absolutely bushed yesterday having had sod all sleep the night before and went home early Mind you I did once shoot my No4 in an F class comp to take the pee

That said

The HBSc are a seriously good bullet. They have an "Agressive secant ogive", but dont have the finicky OAL issues you might have with traditional VLDs etc.

They are quite long in the bearing surface which meant for the first time I could seat close to the landes on my M67. That said I have now dropped my load (Phew.... clapclap ) by 3 grains as I wanted to give the old girl some respect and keep it to 600 and below and there is nothing much lost.
