Statement from George and Kate Digweed

Dear all,

Unfortunately Kate and I were the victims of a horrific attack on Sunday night. Masked men broke into the house, I was badly beaten, we were subjected to an horrible period of time, during which they stole money, guns, trophies, medals and my vehicle.

The guns taken were a Benelli Auto and a new Perazzi High Tech.

We are both mentally scarred forever, I'm also pretty sore. I'm going to try and carry on with my normal schedule as soon as I can, and both of us are hoping that the ensuing months and years are a great healer.

Sussex Police have been fantastic and obviously have a detailed ongoing investigation, they are appealing for witnesses, and any information that people may have concerning the incident, would they please contact Sussex police on 101 and ask for Hastings CID on ext 560356.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone that has sent messages of support in this difficult time.

Terrible I hope he and his wife can get over the experience.

I wonder whether he's had all of his guns removed which seems to be the SoP when this sort of thing happens?

Shame he didn't have a chance to get one of the shotgun out in time and defend himself from attack and robbery. Now we have 2 shotguns nicked and prob ending up in criminal hands esp the benelli auto
Anyone else still think there's is never an excuse to morally ever use a firearm to stop these sorts of robbery !

Just saw an article on this, he has quite a gash on his forehead, hopefully the physical and mental effects are not long lasting to either himself or his wife.

Some thing we all should consider, guns are desirable objects for criminals.

I've got a CCTV Camera at front door, if suspicious at all don't bother opening door. I'm in the phone book if any body wants me.

Y'see he should have been entitled to shoot them because he was lucky they did NOT shoot him and his missus. The fact they broke in while he was at home shows how lucky he was and more to the point - they KNEW he had guns but was not allowed to shoot intruders. Well done the fools who thought that one up..

Well done British justice , in less than 18 months those travelling gentlemen will be back breaking in to houses and that decent , brave couple will still be gone to enhance another country..... has the f*cking world gone mad, time was when we would have sent those thieving b****** to Australia to die working hard labour and KEPT the decent folk.
