Your vision of how to impliment CCW in the UK
Going on from the other thread about CCW, if you were PM (or Home Secretary?), and you suddenly had a moment of clarity and stopped lying to the public that the police are there to, and can protect the public from armed criminals and terrorists, how would you go about introducing CCW into the UK?
In brief as I'm rushed for time;
- The baseline would be the FAC application procedure.
- Mandatory minimum bi-monthly training/practice for the first two years before CCW issued, monthly training/practice thereafter.
- Minimum age restriction of 21 unless maturity/responsibility could somehow be assessed and proven. (You could apply at 19 so that the two year training period would coincide with turning 21).
- Matched alcohol limit to driving limit.
- No firearms in pubs, bars, nightclubs etc where the majority of people are drinking beyond the drink drive limit.
- Doormen/staff trained with firearms to provide security for establishment where CCW is not permitted. Possibly sourced from retiring service personnel.
- Card system to identify authority for CCW.
- 5 years-life prison terms for misuse of CCW. e.g. displaying of gun to threaten without provocation etc
Add your own. Discuss others ideas. Go nuts.
And yes I know there's next to zero chance of this ever happening, we don't need any posts reminding us. This is just for 'fun'.

Same rules as the part of the UK where it IS ALREADY established common practice = display a need, FAC issued
Not ideal, but then again I've not heard of any problems arising from the issue of personal protection FAC's in that part of the UK

I think the 2 year Training/assessment period wouldn't work.... within that 2 years they would have changed their minds again and stopped it.
... and if something happened to bring on the Home Secretary's moment of clarity, (e.g. terrorist based event), 2 years is a long time to wait to get armed citizenry on the streets.
Alcohol limit should be zero.... guns and alcohol don't mix...
Limited to ex members of the Armed Forces or FAC holders with over 10 years experience of firearms.
....but no, will never happen while there is a government, and when (not if) the SHTF happens, everyone will be carrying whatever they can get hold of...
