........on a very soggy Saturday in Newcastle. It was a pleasure to look around her but the queue to actually get off the ship was a nightmare!

I steered HMS Charybdis, once, back in the late 60s!

Navy Days, Pompe. They even demonstrated firing anti sub depth charges...they fire over the top of the ship...what a rather large bang and splash!

Can you imagine H&S on that one now?

AHHHH....The Ark was tied up when we left port, we gave her a salute when we passed. Charybdis was engaged in Sea Wolf protection for the flagship the Ark, during first Gulf war.

The sixth Charybdis was a Leander-class frigate launched in 1968 and sunk as a target in 1993.

I wanted to go to see it but the bosses mothers not well so that put paid to it. Was its Phallanx cannons still on it? (THe 30mm gatling guns that look like R2-D2 with a bonk on :lol: )

There were a few "bits" on display. Only had access to the hangar deck and flat top, didnt notice R2D2. ;)

Never managed the Ark, but did manage Invincible and Illustrious. Even had a flight off Illustrious.

I've been told by my friends grandson,who is serving aboard the Ark that it has been sold to Gillette,don't know if that's true or not. :shock:
