Basically a slug filled with shot, there's a decent thread including a test on them on the Pigeon Watch forum,

If the pellets retain decent energy once the cup opens up that would make a good fox cartridge, for those opportunities when you just can't get close enough and don't have a rifle. Testing would need to be done to make sure the energy was still there though.

Seems like a shot gun version of the Glazer Safety slug. Not sure how I feel about that to be honest - at close ranges (or even out to 100yrds before they break up) that's going to hit with the same localised energy as a slug. I'd be surprised if these aren't being looked at as potentially falling under Section 1.

Surprised that he comments they are not FAC though ... For the first 100m they are effectively a slug.

More than five pellets, non bigger than .36"..... Easily s2.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

I agree with that, and I believe the exact wording is "cartridges containing five or more shot, none of which exceeds ·36 inch in diameter". And these meet that as it says "cartridge containing" and does not mention anything about how they should disperse. However, it is the fact that even at 100m the pellets are still inside the cup and acting as a single object and it is designed not to disperse for a significant distance.

Problem with that one is how do you stipulate how far from the muzzle is far enough before the shot and cup are regarded as one projectile?

To my mind, the cartridges in the vid, did what they said. They were called the 100 meter. The maintained integrity till they were beyond that. The 125 meter target did take multiple pellet hits.

It is an extreme range shotgun cartridge. As some have said, could be the solution when out without a rifle.

Me? I'm loathe to ban anything. What surprised me most was the ninny comments on pigeon watch...

Precisely ... I was trying to think it through too. With a perfect gun and perfect cartridge with a perfect wad the pellets should leave the muzzle as a single entity although immediately those on the periphery will be affected by drag/friction from the air and it will soon break up.

And I too am loathe to say "ban it" and would actually like to see all restricted cartridges including slug removed from S1 and maybe added as an additional clause on an SGC.

half the time, us shooters are our own worst enemies...

"its SG ammo, but I think it should be sec1"

and then in the same breath

"we should be able to have what we want"

this ammo is sec2, have fun with it and for those of you without slug, enjoy yourselves!
