.303 drill rounds

My main interest lies in .303 Lee Enfield rifles, but I have found that my collecting has expanded into a variety of rifle accessories and .303 related equipment. Collecting drill rounds and dummy rounds first started after attending a militaria fair several years ago and I have managed to pick up some from 'that auction site', when they haven't noticed the listings!

Does anyone else collect them?

Clockwise from bottom left:-

1942 Canadian pattern drill rounds
MkIII drill rounds (introduced pre WW1 era) - in MkII charger
MIV
MkVI drill rounds - in MkII charger
Cadet drill rounds (1980s)
Drill D Mk10 (1960s)

Yes I have a stripper clip with four fitted with wooden bullets, possibly Beech. I have had them many years now however they are not actually in my collection, instead they still sit in the leather belt pouch dated 1916 that I found them in.

Don't collect drill or dummy but I have a small colection of live .303 ball rounds some 1942 think about 7/8, 30x1944 30+x1945 not had the heart to shoot them, although a chap that sells re bulleted inert rounds at the military shows been asking me to shoot them so he can have the brass, only if he pays me, not even sure if they will fire...

Also have some 1938 German Mauser 8x57 ball and some later dated with wooden bullets, sealed boxes and original stripper clips. (opened one box just to see what was inside)

I do collect Enfield brass oilers have over 40 now.

Nice collection you have.

I collect all rifle ammunition having a ticket for live up to 19.2mm including expanding and AP.

I dont keep the stuff live though, if its live in my place it goes down range.

There is some interesting stuff out there in sheds etc, its funny what turns up, likewise its funny what some wise asses try to charge teanews

Good luck with it though mate.

Many thanks Ovenpaa, it's taken a few years to put together and there are still a fair few to look for! I would love to find a MkI Lee Metford oil bottle one day.

Sadly my collection of oilers is languishing in a draw at present, I really should haul them out and pop them somewhere.

I collected stripper/charger clips (with the correct inert rounds) for years until I realised that you can't collect them all. Did the sensible thing and started collecting Finnish Mosin Nagants instead.

Still regret not being a wealthy oil tycoon and grabbing the experimental 10 round Lee Enfield charger clip that was found in Herb Woodends collection.

I must be a right wise ass given the £70 I was paid for a clip a couple of weeks ago!

It wouldn't be any fun, if you thought you could collect them all...
