Can you expand on that?, a variation is either a free 1-4-1 or a chargeable one like an additional slot etc., it shouldn't depend on when it's done only on the type of variation.

They initially agreed over the phone, to let me swap an unfilled variation (.44 BP pistil) for a 44 lever action rifle so I could travel down and pick up rifle same day (px my old one).
Then when I got to the Peterlee office, said no can't do that and if you say you aren't needing the pistol one, we will have to review whether you need it if you ask for it back BUT if you want to fill out a variation form now and pay the £20 , it can be done after the variations I am working on, in a couple of hours, as she explained it is not just about stamping FACs, she has to check with people if the (WMD no doubt ) variations can be allowed.
I declined the offer (more because of the time if anything) and said I dont want to be complicating things so just went to do my 1-4-1 thing after leaving both guns at shop. She did ask why I had open slots, as I obviously look more affluent than I am (or is that effluent). Tried to explain about being married and such but got blank expressions.
still waiting, never understand why 1-4-1 take more than return of post, other than keeping us in our places.

Absolute shambles of a department wallhead

I've had to return my FAC several times for various mistakes over the last 5 years, the latest one was they only gave me an allowance of 150 rounds for a 6.5 Creedmoor (because that's what her colleague said was the maximum allowance, with it being a 6.5mm), I asked why, in that case, I had 600 for my .260Rem which is also a 6.5mm?. Sent it back only for it to come back exactly the same, returned again and got it right 3rd time. Well I say right but they also have the wrong serial number down for one of my Henry 44mag Big Boys, I sold one and later replaced it with the newer model, they put the old serial number back on the FAC instead of the new one!.

They goy my certificate on the Monday I got a phone call on the Tuesday from a young lady who asked me to explain exactly what I was wanting to do with it because it involved swopping about five slots. After I explained my reasons she thanked me and said she would attend to it straight away. The completed certificate came in the post Friday morning.

So I can cut chamber re barrel to my hurts content legally. lollol Its the simple things in life makes it all worthwhile. lol
