Simonov SKS first impressions

Finally picked up my LDT/Oakrise Arms Simonov SKS carbine today and put some rounds through it and initial impressions are very good.Made as an "MLR" (Manual Loading Rifle....aka straight pull) to order with full Home Office approval as a Section 1 by LuxDefTec in Luxembourg and imported by Oakrise Arms.

It is a 1950 Tula Arsenal example with all matching serial numbers, with the exception of the magazine, and is chambered in 7.62x39.

Loading is via ten round stripper clips and the action is very smooth, as is extraction.Intial impressions with regard to accuracy are very positive and it appears to have an edge over my AK variants.I was only able to shoot it at 50m today but a 5 round group approx 1.5" was easily achieved with milsurp ammo.

Not something I would rush out and buy. But a nice looking rifle. Enjoy.

I hope so, if they do I'll be placing my order as I need a Tokarev to compliment the Mosin, Simonov, Kalashnikov and Dragunov.....will have the main Russian designers covered then.

Love it. It would annoy the heck out of me that they stamped "MLR - Manual REloading rifle" on it though ;)

Yeah I have noticed that but can't do much about it unfortunately.....but the rest makes up for it.

Yeah, I like that. As said earlier, interesting bits of kit. Got to play with one in the late 80s early 90s far superior in ergonomics and handling than what replaced it. High capacity mag conversion in the offing?

Cheers Sim :good:....... It's a no on the mag conversion, I'll be leaving it exactly as it is.

It is very nicely balanced and fits nicely in your hands if you know what I mean. The sight picture is also a bit better than most AKs, with a slightly wider notch on the rear sight leaf.
