A lovely little Marlin...

I picked up an addition to the collection today, a really nice 1894. Manufacture date of 1905 and chambered in .25-20 WCF. It has a 28" barrel, a little unusual, and some really nice wood and instead of a crescent butt plate associated with rifles, it has the carbine "S" butt plate. It's numbered to the rifle, do came out of the factory that way.
Initially I saw the rifle advertised back in October. Initial questions were answered but I couldn't get away from the fact that the rifle in the pictures of the advert, just looked too damn good! We had a conversation about it being refinished as I thought it might be, the seller likewise believed it was all original. Eventually it was agreed that even if it was a refinish, that didn't matter as it looked a fine rifle. A price was agreed, which is a secret between me, the seller and Jesus, but fair to say it was less expensive than a present good JM marked, .357 1894C!
I picked it up today and was more than happy when I saw it. Got it home and performed a detail strip down and clean. JB compound and 20 minutes now shows me a mint bore and chamber. I have to say that I'm now erring on the side that this is an original finish! There are just too many indicators pointing to that! If Dean ever reads this thread, I'm sorry mate, I know we came to an agreement about the finish, but I now believe you were right!
I have taken a couple of pictures with my phone, that saddler will post when he sees this. I was talking to him as I cleaned it and emailed him the pics as its a bitch to post from my phone. So despite the "no pic, no gun" one will be along soon.
