Most of the Nightforce reticles are quite fine and thus shootable out to 1000 yds. The MLR wouldn't be my first choice but I could live with it.
Really, for range work all you need is a very fine crosshair - some like to embellish it with hash marks etc. but you're only using the middle bit.

I always fancied mill dots as I find it easier to work with but for the price and features available I'm finding it difficult to pass up the mlr reticle one I've been offered

Since you mentioned mildots then you need to think if you need precision adjustments at 1000 yards (~900m). At this distance one click on a 0.1mrad scope will move the reticle by 9cm (~3.54"), whereas one click on a 0.125moa adjustable scope will move the reticle 1.125" (~2.85cm). So you'll need to decide which is best suited for you.
I mostly shoot at 100m or at Fig11 targets out to ~1,200m or so and I really like using milrad scopes because I find it easier to think that way. However, I do find the adjustments a bit coarse for shooting at 100m but it's never a problem for the fig11 targets.

The scope I'm looking at is moa .as the majority of shooters I know use moa I think that's the best method to use

The mil-dot is basically a range-finding reticle - not really necessary on a range where you are always shooting known distances. Also, on a second focal plane scope, it will only work on one magnifcation. On the 8-32 for example, the mil-dot is only true at 22 power - if I remember correctly.
If you are being offered a Nightforce with MLR ret. at bargain price - buy it.
A s/h Nightforce BR model usually fetches around £700.
